Just installed my upgrade from Cubase 4 to 5. Kitcore consistently crashes C5. I can't even get the program loaded.
It is not a CPU problem as I will load Kitcore as the ONLY track in a new project and still get the same result.
This does not happen with any other VSTi I have (so far), but I have loaded much more power intensive programs than Kitcore with no problem (they actually load faster than in C4). As you know, Kitcore is actually a very 'light' program in terms of resources consumed.
I hope you can help. I own at least a half dozen pro drum programs, but Kitcore is, by far, the most useful and versatile.
I don't know if this is relevant, but please note that I also own Drumcore along with 8 of the specialty discs. I generally do not use Drumcore with Rewire and have not tested this with C5. (Though I eagerly await the VSTi update to Drumcore 3!)
Thanks for your help. berfab |

Hi,
We have contacted Steinberg and they are in the process of getting us C5 to run this problem down. it sounds like you have tried creating a new project and adding KitCore (vs. pulling KitCore up in a previous project). If not, please try it as it may give us some data to track down the problem.
Thanks, --kT |

That is exactly what I have done. I have loaded a new project, and I have attempted to put Kitcore as the very first VSTi in a brand new track.
Some other info: When I used Cubase 4, the Kitcore .dll resided in my "DRUMS" folder in the VST folder for SX3 (which I later upgraded to Cubase 4). Kitcore's .dll is STILL in that same folder. AFAIK, C5 has incorporated all prior VSTi and VST files from all previous versions of the program. All other VSTi's in that same folder seem to work fine.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding a solution.
Thanks -B |

So what's up with this? Anything new? |

I am testing as I write this. Could you please let me know exactly which version of KitCore including the build and which OS (as specifically as possible) you are running?
This will help to narrow things down.
Thanks! |

I am away from my studio until tomorrow, so I won't be able to look it up until then. However, I believe it is the most recent update - v. 2.0.0.21.
Running WinXP Pro on a Dell Dimension.

Great. That helps. Also, could you please let me know which Service Pack of XP you have installed, if you get the chance?

Ok, I have tested C5 on 2 separate XP systems (SP3) and have not been able to replicate your issue.
First, are you by chance running a 64bit version of XP?
If so, we are currently working with Steinberg to resolve issues with KC and the 64bit version of Cubase 5. I do not have an ETA on a bug fix for this, but the problem has been logged.
Second, if you are using a 32bit version of XP, is it SP2 or SP3?
As stated above, I have only tested on SP3 and don't have easy access to an SP2 machine. I will try to find one if you are running SP2 and can't upgrade for some reason. Please let me know.
Having said that. If you are indeed running 32bit XP SP3, then I am wondering you can do the following.
1) Either re-install KC or move the KitCore.dll from the current vst folder that you have it in, to the default location. Program Files/Submersible/KitCore/Plug-Ins/VST. Be sure to update the VST 2.x plug-in path. This will take us to a default state and will help with trouble shooting. Once you have moved KC, please try to create a new instance and see if it is still causing a crash of C5. If so, please take note of any error messages that may be reported.
2) Please disable all other VSTi plug-ins with in Cubase 5 from the Plug-in Information page from the devices menu. Once you have done that, please try creating a new instance of KC and see if you have still experiencing crashing. If so, please note any error messages that may be reported.
Please respond to this post via email as that may help if we need to exchange contact information or screenshots.
Thanks,
Brad |

Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been out of the country.
I'm running Windows XP Pro v. 2002 Service pack 2.
The Kitcore version I had installed was 2.0.0.13. I removed it and substituted the latest 2.0.0.21 with similar results. I can open a new project in Cubase 5, create an instrument track and assign Kitcore to it. When I then go to open Kitcore, the program freezes, and then I get BSOD (full crash).
I do not have the 64 bit version of XP, at least not that I know of. I am reluctant to go to Service Pack 3, only because everything on my system is running beautifully. In fact, even Kitcore ran flawlessly when I was in Cubase 4.
No other program does this in Cubase 5.
Note: I have pre-ordered DrumCore 3. When that comes out, will that essentially replace Kitcore anyway since it will be a VSTi and will play the MIDI files?

Hello,
I'm running into the same problem: after updating Cubase from Version 4.5 to 5 it is not possible to assign kitcore to a track witout freezing Cubase. Those projects which used kitcore before the update to Cubase 5 are still playing back.
I'm on Windows XP Professional SP3, the Version of kitcore is shown as Kitcore vst 2.0 build 21.
Any answers from steinberg?
